**There are four mandatory concerts each year, one near the end of each term. Concerts are the final term project for choir classes. Participation is very important. Students should prepare to be available on these evenings by arranging transportation, the night off from work and looking ahead to have homework for the next day ready in advance.
A make-up performance opportunity is given to students with unavoidable circumstances that prohibit a student from performing. The student will be allowed to write a research paper. Unexcused absences will not be given an opportunity for make-up. Communication in writing to Mrs. Taylor must be given in advance except in case of an emergency. Every attempt to attend performance must be exhausted before a make-up paper will be substituted. A missed performance cannot truly be made up therefore make-up will be given half credit.

2. Cantores auditions are Sept. 4-7, 7:00-7:30, 2:40-4:30. The Cantores roster will be posted Friday, Sept. 7 and emailed to Concert Choir. Men’s tux fittings Saturday morning, Sept. 8; dress fittings afternoon. Cantores class begins Monday, Sept. 10.
3. You have 8 minutes between classes. Get water and use a bathroom during passing time so you don’t need to leave class.
4. If you cannot pay the $85 course fee to the WHS bookkeeper, you must speak with Mrs. Taylor immediately to get a waiver form.
5. We need parents to volunteer. Please talk to your parents and ask if they could help with fund raising opportunities: flowers/candygrams at the musical, the Beaverton Education Foundation Phone-a-thon. We also need chaperons, carpool drivers, photographer, website manager, usher coordinator, seamstresses, etc.
6. Put the November 10-11 Choir Retreat on your calendars. Everyone needs to prepare a solo or small group song to perform at the retreat: sing, dance, tell a story or joke, or any talent you prefer. The non-refundable retreat cost of $115 is due October 6.
7. Many National Anthem soloists, duets, trios, or quartets are needed for sports throughout the year. You need to sing for Mrs. Taylor to be approved and then sign up for a specific time. The teams and coaches really appreciate it!
8. I have a list of private voice teachers for anyone who is interested.
9. All-State Choir audition recordings can be made with Mrs. Taylor September 23 or by special arrangement. Recording cannot be made later than September 25. See Mrs. Taylor for an appointment to make the recording. The audition fee is $13. If you are paying by check, make the check to Westview High School. The All-State convention is January 13-15 in Eugene. The cost for those selected to participate is $300 for hotel, transportation to and from rehearsals and performance, and meals.
10. The Spring Retreat lost money last year. The costs have gone up. This year’s retreat will be about $137 ($151 for special diet), depending on the number of participants.
The Spring Retreat could be an AP Testing day for some.
11. Choir Officer voting will be Tuesday, September 12.
12. Carefully plan when you want to take the SAT exam! May 5, 2018 is State Choir Championships and SAT. Take the SAT before May!
13. Singers must be passing 5 classes to be OSAA eligible for GFU Festival, Metro Festival and State Choir Championships!
